Learn How to Roast Garlic with step-by-step photos and set your cooking apart from others!
Roasting garlic has always been one of those items put on my “one day, I’ll give it a try” lists. I’ve seen it done on cooking shows, in magazines, and cookbooks. I’ve even tried it in restaurants like The Stinking Rose. I’m not exactly sure what took me so long to make one of the easiest flavor boosters ever, but I finally gave it a whirl!
Let me tell you, it is a game changer. If you love garlic like I do, don’t wait as long as I did to make roasted garlic at home. The aroma is intoxicating and everyone will be visiting you in the kitchen to see what’s cooking! Best of all, it couldn’t be easier to make.
Start with bulbs of fresh garlic. OK, mine aren’t that fresh because roots have started to grow, but it was all I had on hand at the time :D
Cut the tops off such that each clove is exposed and remove the papery skins.
Then, cup each bulb in aluminum foil and drizzle on a little bit of olive oil.
Seal the foil to enclose the entire bulb and roast at 400°F for 1 hour. That’s it!
When the freshly roasted garlic is cool enough to handle, squeeze the base/root of the bulb to squeeze out the individual cloves. Mash it into a paste with the back of a spoon and use it for anything your heart desires.
Add it to sauces, spread it on toast, make garlic mashed potatoes. I tell ya, roasting garlic is going to be one of those techniques that will set your cooking apart from others!
