If you follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, you’ve known that my kitchen has been getting Mickey-fied for the past several weeks.
When my friend, May, first talked to me about a Mickey-themed party for her son’s (Aysan) 1st birthday party, I was immediately on board. I would have been on board no matter what (what are God mothers for?), but when I found out the theme was going to be Mickey, my heart nearly leaped out of my chest! I am a HUGE Disney fan in case you didn’t know :)
I have known May since freshman year of high school (15 years! Eeeek!) and have come to know that she is the ULTIMATE crafter. I’m talking Martha Stewart status! May has awesome attention to detail and will completely start a project over if it is not absolutely perfect. I knew that Aysan’s party was going to be awesome! She and I started planning together when Aysan was about 9 months old, but I found out later that May began planning long before that (more on that later)!
The unraveling of the party details started with the invitation. Aren’t they perfect? The weeks leading up to the party involved a lot of planning and crafting. Think, wedding planning status. No joke! For the final touches, May rounded up about a dozen of her close friends (myself included) and family for a Mickey-fying party. We spent the day using glue guns, melting chocolate, and continuously asking for more fold-out tables. Everyone was assigned a station for either the decorations or the candy buffet.
I was in charge of the cupcakes, so I held my own private Mickey-fying party :)
On the day of the party, a few of us arrived early to help set-up the venue. The party was held at a buffet so that everyone could eat what they wanted. When I saw all the decorations set-up at the venue, they looked even better than at the crafting party.
Let’s get on with the details, shall we?
Upon entering the room, you are greeted with a welcoming sign and a Mickey curtain.
There was a table for seating assignments and one to pick-up your own ears! The invitations instructed all guests to wear their favorite Disney attire. The ears were for those who didn’t own any Disney attire. She thought of everything!
Each table had these cute centerpieces. The Mickey heads alone took 3 days to complete and were painted by May’s younger sister. See those little buckets that the Mickey head is placed in? Those are formula containers that May has been saving for months! Each of the centerpieces held the table number, which was accompanied by Aysan’s corresponding monthly photo from his first year.
A table tent was placed on the table to provide all the guests with specific instructions. To make sure no moment was missed, May asked all the guests to use #AysansClubhouse. She also explained how the jars should be filled from the candy buffet, so you can bring home your own little Mickey. So about those jars. They’re baby food jars that May has been saving since she started feeding them to Aysan! She is definitely not a procrastinator.
Now, on to the candy buffet. Isn’t it a beauty? I loved all the creative ways she named each treat. Below is a list of all the treats:
- Goofy’s Goof Pops – Lollipops
- Dale’s Chocolate Nose – Candy-covered chocolate
- Mickey’s Oreos – Oreos dipped in candy wafers
- Clarabelle’s Canes – Candy canes
- Donald’s Baked Beans – Candy-covered peanuts
- Chip’s Chocolate Nose – Candy-covered chocolate
- Minnie’s Chocolate-Covered Sunflower Seeds – Candy-covered chocolate
- Pluto’s Pretzel Tails – Pretzel rods dipped in candy wafers
- Toodle Tools – cute little scoops for the guests to use to fill their jars
There were projector screens throughout the room, displaying a slideshow of photos from Aysan’s first year.
Of course, no birthday would be complete without cake. The cake stand featured a two-tier cake surrounded by my Mickey cupcakes. Right beside it was a smash cake for the birthday boy!
As if all of the decorations and details weren’t enough, May even made frames for everyone to take selfies with in lieu of a photo booth.
The moment you’ve all been waiting for, here’s the birthday boy in his Mickey outfit along with his Mickey-fied parents :)
Let’s all wish Aysan a happy birthday!
Thank you, May, for letting me be a part of this momentous occasion! I had loads of fun Mickey-fying together.
I had no idea how awesome this party actually was… May takes parties to the next level.
She definitely does!
Patty, WOW! This is amazing! Thank you so much! I’m sorry I am only now seeing this. LOVE YOU!
It was my pleasure and such a fun night!
